Recently had a woman I know – tried to commit suicide – twice. She has two children under the age of 10 and a husband that has tried to be supportive and helpful to her. She is struggling to keep going and yet her attempts have failed. Which praise the Lord; she is getting help and hopefully overcome her struggles with depression. I have been in that deep depression myself. I have felt that despair too. I can say that selfless thoughts of others help. God wants us to focus on him and him alone. When we do this, we take the light off ourselves and focus on his light. We do things for others out of our love for God and our neighbors. It is so easy to fall victim to our own desires and yes demons that seek to discourage us from running the race.
Hebrews 12:1-3 1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. ”
Paul actually uses a race several time in the New Testament to describe our life here and the commission we have to spread the Gospel.
We sometimes do grow weary, but never lose heart. God is always with us. AMEN I pray for my friend who is struggling and many others who will struggle during this Holiday season. May God give them the strength to carry on and focus on the things that he commissioned us to focus on? The time we have here is precious – let us enjoy it and work for the good of God’s kingdom
