“All of us are planting something in our lives every single day, whether we realize it or not. And we are also reaping whatever we have planted in the past.”
Jesus illustrated to the disciples that he is the vine and each one of us is a branch. If we abide in Him we will bear fruit (John 15:5).
Abide means to stay, to dwell – so if we dwell with God. We are living and interacting with God each and every day. By doing this we gain the fruit of His Spirit… the holy spirit in our lives.
I can share a story of my Navy days. I worked in a fast pace environment – communication center. Everyone in the section swore like drunken sailors… F his and F that. Well the more time I spent working in this section the more I spoke just like they did. Because we were living in close quarters and working in close environment. We started acting and be all the same. It was like we came out of the same cookie cutter.
When we plug ourselves into God’s spirit and likeness, we become more like God. His Spirit is manifested in us. So when I left the Navy and began living my life for Christ – I became a new person. I will not say I never swore again, but language improved.
The more time we spend with God, the more time we actually live with him – we’ll be more like him. What a transformation and for some it is over night – others of us it takes decades.
