I have written about forgiveness and my husband and I collaborated on Forgiveness Bible Study a few years ago. You can still look at the sight on Facebook.
A lack of forgiveness is the number-one obstacle to our healing and our joy.
Forgiveness is a gift we receive from God. We in turn can learn from this forgiveness. If God can forgive all the awful things I have done, we should be able to forgive someone that hurts us. Now some wounds are pretty deep. Forgiveness is a process.
Getting even will never provide you peace.
Jesus did challenge us to deal with our own anger, he said, If you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, leave your sacrifice at the altar. Go and reconcile with that person. Then you can come back to offer your sacrifice to God”
This shows that this forgiveness thing is a very important thing.
This is probably the hardest thing we can do. Forgiving ourselves for our pass wrong doings, or are regrets for not doing the right thing at the right time. We are human and like others we fail short.
We destroy ourselves and take the focus off the prize of Christ Jesus when we focus on these things and do not forgive ourselves. God wants us to be his disciples and not dwell on the things that keep us from doing our job.
You know when you start to beat yourself up for past sins or past mistakes, the devil is seeking to distract you from your goal. Just shake the devil off and know there is power in God.
His power overcame sin forever with Jesus dying on the cross. He rose again and God gives us that power to live within us called the Holy Spirit.
Rely on the Holy Spirit to guide you. Get over self and forgive your past, it has made you who you are and God loves you.
We have to focus on things that are excellent. If we have trouble finding things to think of, visit a hospital, go out to a shopping mall, go to the bus station, you will come away reminded of how many blessing you have. You will be thankful.
What we focus on flows out into everything in our lives. Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence. For from it flow the springs of life.”
When I’m seeking to let faith and peace push away fear and anxiety. It does. We have to focus on things that are praiseworthy, it will flow into every part of our lives.
In the midst of our troubles, there is no benefit in wallowing in it. You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control how you think and react to it.
“Don’t let life pass you by.” Engage it, even if it is bringing pain, with the right moves we can all fight for Joy.
The word means “of good reputation”. What is admirable in our life is when we see people in need we serve them. It is a reflection of our personality. If we are thinking inward, we will be less admirable. We must be selfless in all we do.
When we see a church, doing activities that are inward and not serving others – we find it is not admirable. We must be serving and helping others to achieve this. Let’s focus less on Self and more on Others.
Beauty is found everywhere, even in this broken world. We can seek beautiful music, beautiful sunrises, even a wonderful book or having a cup a coffee with your spouse. Lots of beautiful times.
I have been on nature walks and beauty is found in everything you see. I have also lived in places that were dry and desert like, but beauty was found it that as well. Look for beauty and you will find it.
We can delight in children activities, like coloring. You know we now have adult coloring books, one called “Whatever Is Lovely”, An Adult Coloring Book for Reflection and Worship.
Clean thoughts are possible.
“The Bible tells us that it is important to guard our minds from sinful thoughts. From wrong thinking comes wrong actions. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” This verse says that to guard your heart it will take diligence. That means it is something that doesn’t happen without effort. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says that we need to bring wrong thoughts into captivity.”
These steps are all things we can choose to do. How we fill out minds is how we will think. Spend time with children doing fun pure activities, spend less time watching TV shows. Spend more time reading the word and walking with Christ.
It is good moral choices, do we always make the right decision. I think since becoming a Christian I am selective about what I watch on the new. They are always showing the stories of what is wrong in the world.
I am not saying we need to enclose ourselves in a bubble. We do need to consider the old computer saying : Garbage in – Garbage Out GIGO – a rule of thumb stating that when faulty data are fed into a computer, the information that emerges will also be faulty.
So if we fill our lives with good things and see goods things in this world. Our attitudes and thoughts will be better then negative input that we digest during our television and movies viewing. Also being around bad language, we tend to find ourselves using the language too.
Let’s choose what is right and righteous
2 Corinthians 8:21 (ESV)
For we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord’s sight but also in the sight of man.
It isn’t easy to do the right thing but like joy you have to choose it.
Someone at work told me I would go out of my way to please, people give someone my liver!!! We laughed but in the end I said maybe not my liver I only have one, but a kidney that is another matter.
I would rather go out of my way to help or save someone else then to be the one on top. GOD knows my heart and I choose everyday to be honorable.
I hope that is now others see me!!!!!
We are in Chapter 8 of “Torn” – We will Break It Down – The Fight for Joy
Whatever is true. Things may not be going well for you, and it is okay to admit it, but also admit that God is good and he isn’t finished yet. This is true too. God’s Word remind us that we live in a fallen world where things are really hard, but we also have the hope of God in our lives.
Read Philippians 4
We’ll read the rest of the breakdown tomorrow.
Remember God is the truth and the only way to the Father is through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Where do you seek your joy or happiness from? Do you think there is a magic formula to make us happy?
I think it is safe to say, that a lot of people think Money will make them happy. Even praying over a jackpot hoping and even praying you win. Even promising God that we’ll give 20% to Church.
Joy Really is something we have to choose. Paul writes in Philippians 4:4 “Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again – rejoice.” So how do we choose joy? The Bible says: “Fix our thoughts on what is true, honorable and right, and pure, and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Tomorrow we’ll break it down of choosing Joy.
